Heavy Duty Plating Barrels

There are many different ways to describe an item , what is heavy duty to one person or company may be extreme light duty to another.
Example: Your company is looking for a truck to tow with , you request bids for a heavy duty towing vehicle.
A G.M.C. top of line truck would be considered heavy duty by the G.M.C. sales rep, likely even in the top of its class , but by comparison , a Mack truck in its lightest duty form would far outpass the G.M.C. specifications, while in a similar price range, maybe even less, than the top of the line G.M.C.       Since your spec called out "heavy duty", the Mack salesman quotes thier top of line heavy duty truck , which is extreme overkill for your companies use,and well above the price of the G.M.C.  By price, you purchase the G.M.C. , finding out later you could have had much more truck for your money.
I.E.>the request for bid was not accurate enough by specifying heavy duty. You cannot expect to recieve accurate quotes and information if you do not provide accurate representation of what it is you are looking for. Be specific as possible, and put everything in writing, you and your company will benefit by taking a little extra time in specifying exactly what it is you need.
Plating barrels can be built in many different formats , for many different operations and duty cycles.  Each company has its own requirements that must be considered.
If you need a 14 x 36 barrel with 500# load capacity for 3/32-1/4" nails with maximum working volume and high open area , you must specify it that way. Describing the above as a heavy duty 14 x 36 for parts 3/32 or larger does not provide an accurate description. As follows

Company "A" Quotes: 14 x 36 plating barrel , heavy duty 1 pc bent form construction , .072 perforation , etc, etc .......................................................... priced @ xxx.00 ea
Company "B" Quotes: 14 x 36 plating barrel , heavy duty ribbed construction , .072 perforation at 28% min open area , 1000# load capacity , 3/4" sidewall , triple weld and dowel , etc , etc
......................................................................................... priced @ xxx.00 ea
Both of the above meet the purchasing specification , however , Company "A" ' s slightly ambiguos quote will be quite a bit less than company "B"'s quote. From both companies standpoint , they are quoting a heavy duty barrel , since A and B have a different standard of what heavy duty is,like the example at the top of the page ,your company ends up paying more for less , because the purchasing spec is not descriptive enough for an accurate quote.
